Adding the Final Touches, the Performance Bagger Gets its Stripes
The custom 2022 Road Glide ST is getting its most visible part finished: the outer fairing. This part is the centerpiece of the 70s-inspired, HOGWORKZ-centered custom paint job. In this video, you'll see master painter Raf execute the final, most complex steps—laying down the patterns and applying the HOGWORKZ branding.
The Art of the Outer Fairing
The fairing requires the most precise planning due to its large, curved surface. Raf is working with the Paisley lacing fabric to create a stunning, retro pattern.
Watch Raf and the team carefully plan the placement of the Paisley lacing. They use lessons learned from earlier parts, specifically pulling the fine line tape further back from the edge to ensure the fabric lays perfectly flat and flush, resulting in a crisp, clean pattern when the paint is applied.
The design is engineered to flow seamlessly across the fairing's curves. Raf discusses how he placed the pattern to ensure a "swirl coming right out of the corner," creating a dynamic look that complements the Performance Bagger style.
Decals, Airbrushing, and Branding
The biggest challenge is aligning the large HOGWORKZ logo decal on the curved fairing while maintaining symmetry with the rest of the bike.
Raf and the team use a soapy water method to apply the decal, allowing for crucial "wiggle room" to perfectly align the logo on the curved surface.
After the main logo is set, Raf demonstrates a final, professional touch: airbrushing a blended black fade around the logo area. This step integrates the decal seamlessly into the custom base color, eliminating harsh edges and creating a polished, finished look.
The Reveal!
The video wraps up as Raf finishes the last section of the fairing, spraying the final color over the lacing fabric. When the fabric is carefully peeled away, the complex Paisley pattern is revealed, confirming that the high-stakes work was a success!
